Theft Warning

There have been a series of thefts of wallets, purses and other personal belongings in areas around the University in recent days.   The thieves have been particularly targeting general access and staff areas of schools and the Newcastle TAFE campus.

Please keep an eye on your belongings at all times and don’t leave them unattended when in the Library or elsewhere on campus.


New trial – GeoRef

The Library currently has a subscription to this database from a different provider, and we are now trialling GeoRef on the Engineering Village platform.

Note: To search only GeoRef, uncheck the boxes at the top of the screen for the other databases.

The GeoRef database, established by the American Geological Institute in 1966, provides access to the geoscience literature of the world. GeoRef is the most comprehensive database in the geosciences and continues to grow by more than 90,000 references a year. The database contains over 2.9 million references to geoscience journal articles, books, maps, conference papers, reports and theses.

New trial – Entrepreneurship

Search worldwide publications and multi-media related to the topic of Entrepreneurship. Intended to bridge theory with practice, the Entrepreneurship database covers a wide spectrum of resources useful to educators, researchers, students and practitioners. Content ranges from the scholarly – including journals, dissertations, working papers and conference proceedings – to a full toolkit of practical guides, templates, forms, sample business plans, and tips from successful entrepreneurs.

Flowers room update

The Flowers room and Auchmuty Roof Garden  are now closed for  renovations.

Planning is well underway to replace the roof and to refurbish the Flowers Room within the Auchmuty Library. For some time now, the roof has had a number of problems and the work is designed to eliminate failings such as water leaks and the subsequent damage and inconvenience. The construction  work  commences 28th July and  preparatory work is underway.

AIC closed from 5pm 17th July – Auchmuty Library still open

Due to a network upgrade, the Auchmuty Information Common (AIC) will close at 5:00pm on Thursday 17th July 2008.  It will re-open at 8:00am on Friday 18th July.

The Auchmuty Library will still be open.


Informaworld downtime – 2pm-4pm 15th July

15 July, 2008

Informaworld journals will not be available from 2:00-4:00pm on Tuesday 15th July, while essential maintenance is carried out.


Library tours – Semester 2

2 new trials – Opera in Video and Dance in Video

Trials available until 31st July 2008

Opera in Video will contain 250 of the most important opera performances, captured on video through staged productions, interviews, and documentaries. Selections represent the world’s best performers, conductors, and opera houses and are based on a work’s importance to the operatic canon. This release includes 39 videos, equalling 80 hours.

Dance in Video will contain 250 dance productions and documentaries by the most influential performers and companies of the 20th century. Selections cover ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, experimental, and improvisational dance, as well as forerunners of the forms and the pioneers of modern concert dance. This release includes 47 videos, equalling 82 hours.
