Win an iPad and have a coffee on us!
In support of Open Access week the Library is offering all UoN staff and RHD students the chance to win an iPad. Submit a copies of your full text peer-reviewed manuscripts (Final Accepted Version) to NOVA before midnight on 28th October 2012 and you will automatically be entered into the draw to win an iPad. You will also receive a coffee voucher which can be redeemed at Bytes and Expresso Plus Cafés (Auchmuty, Huxley, Forum, Hunter) on Callaghan Campus. If you are not based at the Callaghan Campus we can arrange for you to have a voucher at a cafe at another University of Newcastle Campus.
What is Open Access Week?
Open Access (OA) Week is intended to raise awareness of OA as a means to provide free online access to scholarly publications. One significant way in which authors can participate is to self-archive copies of their peer-reviewed manuscripts (Final Accepted Version) into the University’s institutional repository, NOVA. A large number of UoN staff and RHD students are already making archive copies of their work available online via open access and the Library would like to encourage more authors to follow this practice.

What should I send to NOVA?
If available, for each of your publications – send Nova a copy of your peer-reviewed manuscript (Final Accepted Version).
How do I send my manuscript versions to NOVA?
Send the full-text of your publications via email to nova@newcastle.edu.au
Can I send the publisher versions of my work?
A large number of academic publishers, as the copyright owner, allow the author’s peer-reviewed manuscript (Final Accepted Version) to be archived in the University’s institutional repository, however a much smaller number of publishers allow their publisher version to be archived.
If the publisher version can be made available via OA then it will be eligible for our promotion. Check the publisher copyright policy and self-archiving database, SHERPA/ROMEO at: http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/.
If you as the author have retained copyright for your publication, then that publication is also eligible for our promotion.

What is the definition of a Final Accepted Version peer-reviewed manuscript?
Final Accepted Versions incorporate revisions made by authors following the journal / conference’s peer-review process. The version content mirrors that of the final publication.
When can I submit my manuscript version to NOVA?
To be eligible for entry in the iPad draw and a coffee voucher, Final Accepted Versions should be submitted from Tuesday 16th October 2012 up until midnight on Sunday 28th October 2012. Publications received after this date will not be eligible for our coffee promotion or for inclusion in the draw to win an iPad.
When will the draw to win an iPad be held?
The draw for the iPad will take place on Wednesday 7th November 2012. The winner will be contacted via phone or email.
How do I get my coffee vouchers?
Coffee vouchers can be sent to you via internal mail or can be collected in person from the Library. Please advise when submitting your publications how you would like to receive your coffee voucher. If you are not based at Callaghan Campus we can arrange for you to have a voucher for a cafe at your campus.
