The Auchmuty Learning Lounge has been renovated to create a great new collaborative space that is now open 24 hours a day. The space has been transformed from a tired area of the Library into a bright light-filled room. Large windows opening onto the courtyard have replaced brick walls. Outdated furniture has been exchanged for comfortable lounges and ergonomic group computer tables.
The Learning Lounge offers group study spaces, collaborative computer desks, WiFi and and a ‘survival station’ with hot water and a microwave. Library staff are not available to provide assistance outside library hours. Computer availability is limited so bring your own device (BYOD) is recommended for individual study. Laptops are also available for loan from the Auchmuty Information Commons. Access to the Learning Lounge after the Library is closed is via student swipe card.
The innovative design uses green technology including movement sensing and ‘daylight harvesting’ light sensors that change according to the amount of ambient sunlight in the room to significantly reduce the energy required to light the room.
